Question by bleedinheart: Can anyone recommend a good international calling card to call Kenya from the UK?
I am currently making frequent calls to a Kenyan mobile number from the UK. I’ve tried a couple of prepay calling cards and also numerous instant access numbers. Although the calls are cheap, the line quality isn’t particularly good and it seems to deteriorate the longer the call goes on, so that the other person sounds more and more muffled until I can hardly hear them.

Any recommendations?

I am in the uae and dont have skype, and those voip calls seem too complicated.

Is there a possibility that I can purchase an international calling card here, and will du and etisalat allow it?

Also, I have a mobile phone, so which is cheaper for calls to South Africa, Etisalat or Du?

Your advice will be appreciated.

basically any calls that do not go thru government sanctioned telcos are considered illegal in UAE , as long as they do not block the website you are using you are fine , but once it gets blocked forget about getting back any money you paid to that website. It is not illegal to buy Skype handset or software , it is just illegal to use it within UAE for complicated reasoning that hardly make sense to me.
Both du & Et offer discounted rates if you subscribe ahead in one of their international calling plans (check their websites or call customer service to sign up), it will not be nearly as cheap as skype , costs quite more, but at least you wont have any connection problems and the voice will be clear.
They also have varying bonus recharge credit schemes for pre-paid customers , where the larger recharge amount get you a larger free credit. The thing about free credit is that it can expire so you have to use it within a certain period.

You do use your minutes , unless yur calling during nights and weekends. there is nothing else to charge. u already by the charged for buying the card.

Question by Kitten: Can I use an International Calling Card with My Cell Phone?
I’m in Australia and want to call home. I have the international plan set up on my cell, but its still more expensive than a calling card. If I use a calling card from my cell, does ATT charge me the minutes as well? In other words, will I be paying for the calling card AND $ 1.29 a minute for the call by ATT?

Yes. I am using that. I just dial local access number and then use calling card for the long distance international call. You can get a calling card such as http://phonecards.comli.com/ for very cheap international calls using local access numbers.
